Skippi Ice Pops Shark Tank India

Skippi Ice Pops, founded by husband and wife duo Ravi and Anuja Kabra, made history on the Indian franchise of the American show Shark Tank. The show provides a platform for entrepreneurs to pitch their business models to a panel of investors, who then decide whether to invest in the company. Skippi Ice Pops received a funding of Rs 10 million from all five investors, becoming the first brand to receive an ‘All Shark Deal’.

Ravi and Anuja both have over a decade of experience in the FMCG sector in India and Australia. They returned to India in February 2020 with the idea of starting their own ice pop company. After conducting research, they found a gap in the market and launched Skippi Ice Pops in March 2020 with six flavors including mango, orange, raspberry, cola, and lemon. The popsicles are made with natural colors, preservatives, and sweeteners and are sold at room temperature, with no need for cold storage.

The couple invested Rs 55 lakh in the production and distribution of their product, but suffered a loss of Rs 11 lakh due to the pandemic-induced lockdown. However, they were able to launch the product in early 2021 and saw success with the first batch selling out within three weeks. They currently sell 60,000 popsicles every month and have a machinery capacity of three lakh.

Ravi and Anuja went through five rounds of competition to get on Shark Tank and impressed the panel of investors with their drive, passion, and sincerity. The technology used for their popsicles, which allows for storage at room temperature, and the fact that they have no competitors in the market also played a role in the successful pitch. The company’s success has not gone unnoticed, as Lenskart owner Peyush Bansal became the sixth investor after being impressed by the model.
